Volotea in extension to Sardinia: almost 7,500 flights, 3,500 more than in 2020

Volotea full speed ahead on Sardinia, which this year sees her as the protagonist with atotal offer of 7,490 flights, 3,500 more than in 2020. From January to October, more than 900,000 seats were offered by the carrier, an increase of 52% compared to the same period last year. The average satisfaction rate is high, which is around 90%: this means that 9 out of 10 passengers promote what the company has done to date. Volotea connects the airports of Alghero, Cagliari and Olbia with 45 destinations (24 of which are exclusive), with a particular focus on domestic destinations: there are, in fact, 35 Italian routes operated by the carrier in Sardinia.

“Since 2012, we have transported over 3.6 million passengers to Sardinia, always guaranteeing direct connections to national and foreign destinations – he said Carlos Munoz, president and founder of Volotea -. Now, with the management of territorial continuity, we offer routes with even more convenient timetables, allowing daily transfers from the three main Sardinian airports to Milan Linate and Rome Fiumicino. On these routes we recorded an excellent punctuality rate, over 90% (Otp-15): a truly remarkable result, considering the short notice we had to activate the new connections. We believe it is essential, even in a period of less traffic such as winter, to bring the territory closer to the rest of Italy. We estimate to employ, at regional level, about 200 people in our 3 operational bases: we have inaugurated a new one in Alghero, in addition to those of Cagliari and Olbia. We hope to be able to announce important new investments soon, to better meet the travel needs of citizens and entrepreneurs of local communities ».

“Cagliari Airport, as known, has promoted the partnership with Volotea since 2012, up to hosting from 2019 the first Volotea base operating all year round in Sardinia – he added Renato Branca, CEO of Sogaer, the management company of Cagliari Airport -. The constant development of the company in our airport, both in terms of destinations offered and in terms of passengers, as well as continuous and non-seasonal operations, has led it in recent years to become the second carrier on the airport by traffic, this moreover without considering the territorial continuity routes, of which it has now become the contractor. Furthermore, it should be emphasized that Volotea, territorial continuity aside, will close 2021 at Cagliari Airport with a traffic increase of 21% compared to the previous year. This data, together with the forecast of a Summer 2022 with over 20 active routes, and with the traffic of flights of territorial continuity, testifies to the positioning of primary importance of the carrier on our airport, of which we are very proud and satisfied ».
