Durant makes 38, but Brooklyn knocks out against Charlotte

Third success in a row to open the season of the Hornets who beat the Nets at home, despite a super Durant from 38 points with 17/24 shooting. Merit of the second thirty in a row for Miles Bridges (32 points), of the 18 with 18 conclusions of LaMelo Ball, who remains on the bench throughout the fourth period in which Ish Smith dominates on the parquet – author of 15 points and of all the plays decisive that condemn Brooklyn

BROOKLYN NETS-CHARLOTTE HORNETS 95-111 (THE TABLE)

Convincing victory for Charlotte who spoils the party at Barclays Center, prepared for the Nets’ home debut – started strong, even with a double-digit advantage at the turn of the long interval, but unable to close the accounts against the Hornets. Many shooting errors for Brooklyn, in particular from the bow (4/7 to open the match, then only 5/28 overall), without anyone – including James Harden, who still appeared out of shape and with little rhythm – was able to lend a hand to a monumental Kevin Durant. In fact, Charlotte’s defense does not have a player capable of containing KD and the doublings attempted by coach Borrego on him fail miserably: the result is a 38-point performance with 17/24 shooting for Durant, which however is not enough for the masters of home to celebrate the return of the New York public to the arena even in the regular season.

To rejoice then is Charlotte, who makes a 3-0 record to open the season and enjoys a super Miles Bridges, again over 30 and author of 32 points and nine rebounds: in the 35 minutes in which she remains on the field the Hornets are +20 on the Nets, with LaMelo Ball who gladly plays the role of snack companion to duet with – 18 points, six rebounds and five assists in 26 minutes. The rookie of the year 2021 in fact remains on the bench for the entire fourth period, because to take his place on the parquet is an unleashed Ish Smith – the protagonist of the Hornets victory. Scored 11 of his 15 points in the last fraction, distributing four assists and being inevitable for not exceptional Nets defense. Another man to count on for Charlotte, who is aiming with conviction for the playoffs.

The story of the first half between Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets

Cold hands for the Nets in this home debut, in which it takes three minutes to find the bottom of the retina for the first time: the Hornets take advantage in part, who put their nose forward in the start thanks to a couple of plays of LaMelo Ball . Two Durant baskets bring Brooklyn into contact: 13-8 after almost six minutes and the first timeout on the pitch. KD, however, finds no opposition in Charlotte’s defense (also because, exactly, who can think of marking him?) And a couple of his poetic baskets force the Hornets again to stop the game. Eight minutes of play: 19-17 for guests. The hosts jumped up, placed the partial 13-2 (with a crazy assist from Durant) and moved forward before the end of the first quarter. KD rises to 10 points and a couple of assists and Brooklyn closes the opening fraction 31-27.

In Brooklyn, however, despite the absence of Kyrie Irving for the well-known reasons, they have not only KD but also a super James Harden: his eight points in a row give the sense of a possible escape, immediately appeased by Charlotte who plays well and with great rhythm. Miles Bridges immediately reaches 14, to which are added the 11 of LaMelo Ball and the first timeout of the second quarter arrives at 39-39. The Hornets partial is 10-0, to which Durant responds while Mills misses his first shots from the arc in the Nets jersey: 41-41, five minutes to play in the first half. The closing of the first half is all in favor of Brooklyn: the quintet with LaMarcus Aldridge from “center”, Durant and Harden to alternate in the management of the possessions and two shooters like Mills and Brown on the exhausts hurts Charlotte. Then of course, the first two quarters of KD are particularly inspired and are always comfortable (20 points with 10/13 shooting, seasoned with three assists) and the Nets close ahead at 58-50. The best in the Charlotte house are a 21-point Miles Bridges and a 13-point LaMelo Ball with 14 shots.

The game remains pleasant even in the second half, when to make the news and to grumble is the blatantly wrong triple without touching the iron of LaMelo Ball which, despite the space, goes very far from the target. Durant, on the other hand, makes everyone agree: 20 minutes at the end of the match, 68-59 for the Nets. However, shaking off a team on the ball like Charlotte is not easy, so much so that the raids of Bridges and the 12 bloody turnovers of the Hornets put the guests back in the game: 72-72 and immediate timeout of Steve Nash a quarter of an hour from end. A Kevin Durant close to 30 points is therefore not enough to ensure the advantage of the Nets, who are overtaken and at the end of the third quarter are 79-78 below.

Missing from the call at the Nets home is above all the three-point shot: after the 4/7 of the team at the start comes the 3/20 that prevents Brooklyn from staying ahead, while Miles Bridges takes the second consecutive thirty in this super start of the season. The attack by the New Yorkers continues to beat in the lead, while Ish Smith takes care of the great Hornets quintet, guaranteeing Charlotte with points and assists a 3-in-a-row from six baskets in a row. Brooklyn flounders instead, with colorless Harden taking two consecutive knockouts and failing to make an impact. Less than seven minutes before the siren is 94-86 Hornets, the greatest advantage in a game that has become complicated for the Nets. LaMelo Ball remains on the bench for a long time because Ish Smith continues to lead the dances, author of 11 points in the fourth period and plays that allow the Hornets to add as many lengths of margin over Brooklyn 200 seconds from the siren. Even the final effort of a 38-point Kevin Durant does not change things: the Hornets win.
